Hattusa, located in Çorum, is the first capital known to men in Anatolia. Hattusa took place in the history scene as the capital of the Hittite Empire between the 17th and 13th centuries BC. During the excavations in the region, findings from the Hatti, Assyrian, Phrygian, Galatian, Roman, and Byzantine periods were unearthed. Hattusha is divided into two parts as the upper and lower city. The upper city includes temples and other sacred areas whereas the lower city includes the Great Temple and public living areas. Hattusha was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1986.
